Communications provider AT&T and technology giant IBM recently integrated key solutions to form a new shared cloud service, the providers detailed in a press release Tuesday.
Instead of using what the companies described as the “public Internet,” the service makes use of private networks via AT&T’s VPN platform. Also in the mix is IBM’s SmartCloud Enterprise+ solution, a service previously offered by the company entailing a managed infrastructure.
“AT&T and IBM are delivering a new, network-enabled cloud service that marries the security and speed of AT&T’s global network with the control and management capabilities of IBM’s enterprise cloud,” commented AT&T Business Solutions CEO Andy Geisse in a press release.
The companies also emphasized security standards when clients use the solution, discussing how a financial company would be able to “move and manage critical customer data between its and IBM’s cloud data centers without the data ever leaving the security protections of the virtual private network.”
Specific features include SLAs, customizable options, a variety of “automated built-in security functions,” and more.
The providers, meanwhile, are hoping the cloud appeals directly to Fortune 1000 companies worldwide.
AT&T is not new to the cloud industry. Aside from general cloud services, the company maintains a distinctive presence in the hosting industry with offerings geared towards colocation, managed hosting, content delivery and more.
